Invasion - Jon S Lewis

Invasion by Jon S Lewis is based on a young teenager Colt, who tragically loses his parents in a car accident. This forces him to move from San Diego to live with his grandfather in Arizona. It's soon revealed that perhaps his parents were not in an accident - that they were murdered. But who would kill them and why?

Along with his old school friend Danielle and new friend Oz, they set out to uncover the truth behind the death of his parents, how does it tie in with Trident Industries (namely Trident BioTech), CHAOS and the Phantom Flyer...isn't he just a comic book character?

When I first started to read this book, I certainly wasn't expecting a novel that centered on alien invasions, government conspiracies and theories as well as "space age" technology. But, this is what Invasion covers and boy does it pack a punch.

Although the audience for this novel is "young adult", I think many a 'grown-up' would really enjoy it. It is well written, with its main characters all having distinct, likeable personalities. It comes across as believable because some aspects of extra-terrestrial life are explained. Who's to say that there isn't a worldwide cover up? That there are aliens living amongst us? Whilst Colt's adventure doesn't give definitive answers, it without doubt gets you thinking of the possibility.

The books chapters are short but does not detract from the pace that is being built up. At the end is an excellent inclusion of artists impressions of some of the aliens that Colt and his friends encounter - brilliant.

I'm not a fan of this particular genre, but Lewis writes a compelling page turning story; I loved every minute of it and would expect many a teenager to get caught up in Colt's world. I'm looking forward to the next installment...
